It's always easy telling people what to do. However, telling them the other side is a different ball game. This is a blog that tells right things the wrong way.

How not to: Avoid getting Phished

How to get phished? Were you trying to get phished? Yes! Then you are at a good place. I will tell you how to get phished in 5 simple and easy steps. No, this is not a phishing site, nor I will link to phishing site. I will just tell how to get phished. Here we start:

Turn off safe search
Ever visited Google? When you search, there is a small line of text - "Moderate Safe search is on" , first find it. I am not going to tell you! Turn safe search on and search for " million dollars " , "becoming rich in 1 month " etc. You will surely see some links. You will have to search a bit for phishing sites. But the problem is that Google may auto-filter such sites. This step may fail. Move on to next one.

Turn off all anti-......s
Do you have any anti-viruses or anti-spywares installed? Yes! And you are trying to get phished? Shame on you. Uninstall them all this moment, restart and come back to this page. I will be waiting for you.

Do not update
Use oldest browser which is available and to top it all, do not update. Actually, what they do in updates is fix security holes. If you have got all security holes fixed, how would you get phished?

Believe " You have won .......... " mails
Do you get mails which say you have won ........ with links where you can claim prize? If yes, click them, enter sensitive information required and then relax waiting to get phished.

Believe " Bank " mails
By bank mail, I mean the mails which say that the bank database has got corrupt and they require your details to save your money. Click links in these mails and enter your bank password. Then see what happens to money in your account.

Not yet phished?
Last and most effective step would be to visit porn sites. I do not need to say anything about them. Or do I? Tell me!

How not to: Make visitors click on ads

Getting users to click on ads is a tough job. However, with a bit of common sense and intelligent work, you can get users to click on ads. Read on.

Wait for ’ targeted content ’
Place ads on your blog/site and forget. This approach is followed by most of publishers out there and these publishers most of the times, fall flat. They do not earn much from blog/site. The problem I am going to discuss is more common on blogs. You have to repeat a keyword to get targeted ads. However, on blogs without a specific topic, repeating a keyword can be difficult. So, think reverse, do not wait for ads. When you notice that one ad is appearing more on blog, write an interesting post about it. It will get you many clicks provided the ad stays there for some time and you have got some visitors.

Place ads in dark corners (of blog)
Ad placement is important factor in getting clicks. Place an ad down the page and be prepared to get no clicks. Place ads near the top, or near areas which are most viewed on a page.

Give ads a thick border
Giving ads a thick border is equivalent to typing out in title, " These are ads. Keep away " Ads should be well matched to your site. They should not appear as different add-ons.

How not to: Promote your Blog

Promoting a blog is an art in itself. And a art which if not done well, can cause disasters to your traffic. So, are you trying to promote a blog? If yes, try these tips. They will do nothing bad if not good. Have something to say about tips, any mistakes or any additional tips, comments are always welcome.

Never submit to blog directories.
Blog directories are there to do nothing. This is the perfect plan if you plan to decrease traffic to your blog. What is a blog without readers? A waste of time and effort! It is simple, find some good blog directories and submit your blog there. Be sure to read there terms and conditions. Some good directories are Blogarama, Blogcatalog, Technorati, Blog Explosion, Blogrankings. If you are into serious blogging, you must have noticed Technorati. It is a good service. Blogcatalog has a good number of blogs. Blogexplosion deserves a special mention. It is really not a directory. It is a "traffic service" according to me. Once you submit your blog, it will be previewed by administrator within "48-72 hours". But in my case, 48-72 hours have stretched very long. I submitted my blog about 30 days ago and still it’s waiting for admin approval. But there are many advantages of using this service. Their traffic sending is truly unique. You have to surf through member blogs. On top, a bar that counts seconds and one with picture identification is present. After 30 seconds, you can click on the given number and go to another page. For each view, you earn 0.5 credits. 1 credit is equivalent of 1 visit. There are also some other services like games which can help you earn more credits.

Give wrong description.
If by mistake, you submit your blog to any directory, then remember to give as bad as possible description of your blog. Usually, visitors read descriptions and then click on the links. If you have a bad description, then this will really help you minimise traffic. Keep description as less informative as possible. Confuse the reader, see how he not visits your blog. But if you are in mood of driving traffic to your blog, spend some time thinking about description and when you feel it is good, write it.

Bad design and content.
At last, everything comes down to the basics. You have to get the basics good if you want to have a name in blogosphere. Have good and original content and you will see increase in readers. One thing to be remembered is to maintain the quality once you are famous. With good content, promotion becomes easy. Keep your language moderated. Abusive language will surely decrease traffic ( unless you are blogging about abusive language ).
